Windows 8, Windows without Windows?

     Nowadays, computer technology became one of the essential parts of our life. We write our essays with word processors, read eBooks, watch movies, and even communicate with computers. And recently, smartphones and tablets allowed us to bring and use computers whenever, wherever we are. But despite of the rise of smartphone and tablet, personal computers are still dominating most of our electronic gadgets.
     In general, a computer consists of hardware and software, and software is commonly divided into two parts: the operating system (a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs) and the program which runs on the operating system. Windows, Linux and Mac OS X are the most popular examples of operating systems, and more than 70% of personal computers are using Windows as their operating system.
     Windows was first introduced in 1985. And with its graphical user interface (GUI) based on mouse input, Microsoft successfully dominated operating system market. The main difference of Windows and MS-DOS (the previous version of Windows with command-line interface) was that Windows had ‘Windows’. With the ‘Windows’, Windows was able to offer people much efficient multi-tasking environment compare to MS-DOS, by which people could switch programs with unimaginable speed they’ve ever experience before. And throughout the new versions of Windows such as Windows XP and Windows 7, Windows succeeded to maintain its popularity.

     But Last October, Microsoft released Windows 8 and removed the Start button from the taskbar and replaced the ‘Windows’ UI with their new UI, formerly known as ‘Metro’. (It’s not ‘Metro’ anymore due to a patent infringement with a subway company Metro AG) The problem is that it’s absolutely not appropriate for the traditional keyboard and mouse input but only optimized for touchscreen environments like tablets.
     Though it’s possible to switch to the old ‘Windows’ UI with the ‘Desktop’ button, eliminating the ‘Start Orb’ extremely decreased user convenience and efficiency, which is the reason for some users calling it ‘the crippled interface’. And compare to the old ‘Windows’ environment which allowed user to have unlimited numbers of ‘Windows’ in a screen, the new Windows 8 environment only allows us to run two programs in a screen.

      At first, in the Developer Preview version of Windows 8, it was possible to disable Metro UI and have Start Orb via some registry tricks. But since the Consumer Preview of Windows 8, this trick was disabled and users of Windows 8 began to develop alternative programs to have a Start Orb. With the efforts of many people, fortunately, it’s now possible to have our Start Orb again, though it’s not perfect yet. The examples like this clearly shows us that Windows without Start Orb is unusable.
      I have no doubt that Windows 8 is a perfect operating system for smartphones and tablets. It seems very nice to have Windows programs such as Microsoft Office running in tablets. But I think Microsoft had a mistake. They shouldn’t have done replacing whole interface. Even though mobile device market is growing bigger and bigger, the personal computers are still dominating most of electronic device market. And it is obvious that there are some unapproachable benefits of personal computer’s mouse and keyboard input.
      Microsoft missed a big point here. They shouldn’t have done mixing touchscreen UI with the ordinary UIs of portable computers without touchscreen. Their new ‘Metro’ UI is useless, unless there’s a touchscreen. If the UI of Windows 8 was configurable, it would be much better. I hope Microsoft fixes this in Windows 9, and if they don’t, that's why we have Mac and Linux.

my favorate movie

I like to watch movies in my free time. My most favorite movie is "three idiots". I saw some lots of movies and this movie was the best for my personal liking. the genre that I like is action, drama, sports, comedy. (I don't like such as horror thing) this movie's genre is drama, comey and it's made from india.
this movie is about india's educational problem, friendship, love and life.

It's a story of three student of ICE(imperial college of engineering) which is the best school in india. story runs with Rancho(the main character) and two friends Raju and Farhan. Raju and Farhan was a normal student of ICE. They thought that they have to compete each others and be the winner. And all the winner should go to ICE with no decision of thier own. But two friends become different because of Rancho.

Ranco was a different with any other students. He did not wan't compete. he was all ways against to bad traditions. he had another thinkings and he showed what life should be. He showed that in his life and words. But that made the professor mad. professor was going to get parhan and raju away from him. by sending a letter to thier families. they had thier own reason to go to ICE and graduate. So farhan and raju was demanded to not to play with Rancho.

they overcome all the hard things that are through. the professor was helped by rancho and friends. by that three idiots could graduate the ICE.raju got into a good company. Farhan became a potogragher by his want. Rancho became a great scientist and teacher.

this movie tells about the bad things about india's education system and what the education sould be. also tells about friendship, love etc. i love this movie because of the way of Rancho's thinking.

I don't like to change 4 river in Korea - Wayne

Argument for 4-river refurbishment project

     The world's 4 civilization came from Nile, Yellow, the Indus and the Tigris River. From old days, river has been important for the prosperity of nations or cities. In theSouth Korea, there is also 4 main river that makes people farm better in the past which is Han, Geum, Nak-Dong and Yeong-San rivers. That 4 rivers are very important.

     Lee Myung-Park, 17th President of Korea was determined and decided to change Korea's 4 river that is named the Four-River Restoration Project. Korea needs toprevent flood damage. Secondly, we need to secure water resources, and water improvement. Lastly, they do it because of development of that area.

     It seems like a good project, but I oppose to this project. Because it costs too much money, nature has to be existed natural, it is not effective to block flood, andlastly, no increasing job.

     Nature is the best to be preserved. By 4 river refurbishment, there will be existed some positive things, but nature is made from God. River has the own purpose that God gave. We can't destroy or change what God made, we have to keep it. For example, few months ago, in that four rivers turn green because the government made a dam to keep water for drought.However, there is another problem, because of a dam more than 10 thousand tons of trashes are blocked by it. Additionally, that dam is not so strong, so water is leaking.

      Furthermore, it costs too much money. 22 trillion won is a budget of this project. It is not 22 billion. It is 22 trillion. It is too large money to realize how big. 21 trillion won is aone-year budget of Seoul. Moreover, we can soar welfare to societies who are destitute and neglected. So 22 trillion won is wasting money. In Korea, welfare is the most important andbig problem that has to be solved.

      This project is progressing to block flood. However, freshwater is not only visible. They exist as the groundwater, mostly. This groundwater flow under the ground, at thedownstream ground water join to freshwater or go to the sea. In other words, blocking upstream and controlling quantity of water can't completely control the flood.

      The government hope there will be many jobs in this project. They calculate more than 340 thousand people will have a job. However, the problem is constructing industry and civilengineering industry is different. In case of construction industry, they need not only heavy machine, but also many people, constructing industry depends on a heavy machine, so theactual employment will decrease.

      4 river refurbishment project has some benefit that is necessary to us. However, there are too big disadvantages that can cover the benefit. So I think the government has to stop4 river project, and start to restore those rivers. 

Cindy Essay ;2

when I got this topic, I felt confused because I have so many things that I like. But I choose one and that is 'American Drama'. Same topic with Ben and I got this idea from Ben too. Anyway, maybe it was 15 years old when I saw American Drama at first time. I saw it by the recommendation of my friend. She recommended me a drama named 'Gossip Girl' and I like it so much. After that I saw many American Drama and I fall in love with them too. Now let me introduce about few American Drama I like mostly.

First one is 'Glee'. Glee is musical highteen drama like 'High School Musical' and it has huge fans in America and the whole world. It story about Glee team named 'New Direction' in Mckinley highschool. And it show life of each student is this glee club. But main story is about American Glee Contest which New Direction take part in. I like 'Glee' because of lot of great pop song that New Direction sing in this drama. And it make me to be big fan of pop song too. But maybe this drama can be boring to someone who like action. Then I want to recommend this drama to them.

Next one is 'Vampire Diary'. This drama is similar with movie 'Twilight' series. I saw this American Drama by my friend's recommend too. Love between two vampire brother and girl is content of Vampire Diary. This drama has huge action scale and thrill different with 'Glee'. And it can be little bit cruel too. I don't know why but I like drama, book or movie about vampire. So my favorite movie is 'Twilight' series include 'New moon' and 'Breaking Dawn'. I don't like horror things so Vampire Diary can be my first and last step to horror drama.

These are my favorite American Dramas. Each episode of them take 40minutes and 20 episodes are in one season. Famous and popular drama like Gossip Girl, Glee and Vampire Diary have 3-6 seasons. I waste a lot of time to watch American Drama and I regret about it. Because, I couldn't do the things that I have to do. So, I means, American Drama can make us become addicted in it so we have to be careful !

Will Kim- My favorite...

           Will you dare to face, even the death itself, to fulfill your destiny and claim what is rightfully yours? If so, you may want to read this book. It is about what is right and wrong.

‘The Three Musketeers’, written by a Frenchman named Alexander Duma, is over 800 pages long. It may seem very long at first. But once you fall for it, there’s no coming out. Although it was written in the 19^th century, it is still one of the world’s best read novels. Alexander Duma was born in 1802 and lived until the 1870. Before his death, he mentioned that ‘The Three Musketeers’ was his most beloved work.

The story of ‘The Three Musketeers’ starts by introducing a young boy (well more likely a teenager) Daartanang who is fearless, optimistic, but too young to face the danger of this world. The story deepens as Daartanang is involved with the three musketeers, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Every one of these musketeers has their own way of thinkings, styles, and behaviors. But somehow they are so well interwoven together that nothing can break their friendships. Daartanang later is involved with the king of France, the queen of France, the cardinal, and above all, Malady. The story of the Three Musketeers cannot continue its long story of 800 pages without the evilness of Malady. Plot is deepened and the true color of Malady is revealing piece by piece. She is not just a threat to Daartanang and his companions, but a threat to the whole entire kingdom of France. It is up to Dartanang and his musketeers to stop this evilness from spreading. In the course of this, many of Daartanang's friends suffer, Daartanang himself also suffers greatly due to the assasination of his beloved one. But in the end Malady is executed because of her immorality and inhumanity.

Reasons why this book caught my attention was first because of its thickness. I really enjoy thick books especially if it is my favorite genre. Reasons why I do not normally enjoy short story is because I don't get time to fall into the story. To be specific, when I read short stories, the story just ends when I am just at the verge of tasting a bit of the story. I hate it. Second reason why this book caught my eyes was its genre. Adventurous, a little bit of romance, action, thrill, wide scale, and crime. It is just fantastic.

 I recommend all of us to read this book in English. Yes.

Jay's 2nd essay

 Thrills, Mystery genre interested me the most. So I choose a novel which is out with a movie right now. "Shutter island" is one of my favorite one. The book is wrote by 'Debbus Lehan', it is a mind controlling story. Also the thing that intrigued me the most was the story-line of this island. Haven't read the book yet, but the film shows a image of brightness but a scary meaning to it.

 About 3 years ago, when I was in middle school my English teacher made me watch it. I saw one from movie. But I recommend you to read a book instead of film. Because according to scientific research, they say reading will increase your creativity. You can think in various kind of things and ways by reading a book. I don't mean to rush you anyway.

 For little warm up I will instruct. The story begins with lunatic patient missing at Boston Shutter Island mental hospital. Therefore Teddy Daniels from U.S Marshall rolls to Shutter Island with his companion Chuck. This hospital that is located right in middle of Shutter Island is sealed tight to isolate mentally deranged person known as psychopaths as far away as possible from land. The land is made to be impossible to escape.

 As Teddy investigates most of mental patients existing at the Island they seem to be evading the truth. Doctors, nurse, almost every person on the island refuses or avoids and makes up an answer like they have planned for themselves long before. Furthermore as the Manhunt gets harder Teddy and Chuck face strange phenomenons. More things occur. Murders, missing clue...etc

 In conclusion, I liked the story because of its distinctive background. Moreover seeing mystery events and phenomenon is my favorite. And it is thrilling to watch. This dramatic ending will confuse your mind. So I recommend this story.

 

Alice essay #3

  Do you have any interest in north korea? If you don;t .. how can you???
I'm mad and curious at the same time  for south korean not paying any attention to northkorean.
I think many of them lost the sense of same people with north korean.These day I read a book about concentration camp filled with innocent people educated themselve as animal never heard of human's right.
I agrue that government should implement attentive policy for northkorean who escaped from northkorea.


  First,Most north korean have come to korea through china.
The journey is not easy.Eventhough they escaped to china which is usually the first course they take,they get to face the obstacles.As they don 't have any money and have no idea how to make a living , they have no choice but to go hand in hand with chinese who sell them in some market or make them work in very dangerous place giving unreasonable sallary.Most woman get sold for 5 or 6 doallars and become sex toy.Man works in a place where chinese hide them.So the one who came to korea after experiencing all these suffering tends to not believe people.They need education desparately.Government should build a school .


First, school edaucation should contain letting them to see their country in right way.
Most of north korean have brainwashed by country to serve 김정일 in every way .So it is usual to believe and serve  김정일. Just a little amount of  North korean defector know the real fact about김정은 and their country in world's view.Most of North korean defector don't know fact about him .As they were citizen of North korea ,it is important to know about their country in right way whether they are South korea citizen.

 Second, school should  teach they have 'Human right'.As I said before they  have gone through lots of suffering, Lot of them have betrayed by people and have known themselves as animal or even less than that .Some of them don't even have victim mentality because they have spent their most of life treated as animal in concentration camp.But changing the mind is not that easy as it seems. It can take a while it's worth it for it can make them to live augustly in our new country.\

 Third, school should help them to speak north korea language which is little differnt from north korea.
Even though many North korean defectors came into korea. South korean get to suprise and avoid Northkorean by their language.By teaching them south koream language they can get the job more easily and associate with other people naturally. I think this little work reducing the difference in language is the way to help Northkorean have first step in our society.It's really important.

Fourth, school should offer the jobs.
For woman, they  usually get jobs in restaurant. For man, they work for labor.
They usually stay lawer class.They need a job where they can work with their talent.They also have to have a chance to achieve one's dream.Since they have done whatever Northkorean government told them to, they are not used to find and dream what they really want to be.Making them to dream and offering the process to achieve dream  should be given by school  .


  Lastly, school should  help and protect those who want to inform others about North korean.
There are spies of North korea .When North korea defectors publish a book , risk follows naturally.
As North korea is known for despotic country and doesn't communicate with other countries, everything happens in there remain to be secret especially about concentration camp.Many defectors who experience the new world have sorrow in their country . School should let them publish a book and make them stand to tell others about their country.It requires lot of attention so the government should join these too.


  For these reaon , I argue that  government should implement attentive policy for North korea defector.
How can our coutry send back  the defectors who have dreamed to find freedom in our country??Also, we need to study about their country and don't loose a sense of same people.I think most of people try to avoid the country just next to us because it seems to look so heavy to them.There are so many people who want to come to our country just for freedom not honor ,money and popularity which we are able to seek in rich.
As we are christian , we should help them because we are the ones who have more not ours but what god gave.
