Lianne's Essay 4 : From 911 to Barak Obama's election

My name is Steven Kang a CEO of my own small company. About 11 years ago, I was a vice president of WTC the World Trade Center. I have a extraordinary experience to share with you. From this experience, I became to feel God and again felt that God is always there to protect me. I believe you will also feel HIM again from my experience and rely on Him more than before. From now my story starts.

The story starts on September 11, 2001. Yes, it happens on the famous September 11. The weather was great but I was in hurry to WTC because I was late for the meeting on 9 a.m. I took the taxi busily and pushed the driver to get fast to the center. It was rush hour and traffic jam was heavy. Finally I got to the center.

I paid the driver and got off the taxi. Suddenly, a great crash was heard above me. An airplane was stuck in the building crashing and spliting into all parts. The WTC was collapsing. The pieces of glass were falling and gray smokes were floating. All the people were running away from the building screaming.

I had no idea what was happening. In a minute I hurried and took the taxi again that was going to leave. Again, I hurried the driver to leave this place quickly get to my home. I turned on the TV and there was the scene that I've just seen 30 minutes ago. I had to know why this was happening and I searched through the internet and kept my eyes on TV. Through the research, in my mind there was a thinking of a new president who can handle this in the best way. (Now the narrator changes to Michelle Obama the first lady)

"Yes, we can!". There's my husband having a speech in front of the big citizens. In a loud applause from the USA citizens and no one's eyes are off from him. From this moment, my husband is the president of USA. Since I know his sufferings and values of life, I firmly believe that he will be the best president ever. I expect that he will help people from the bottom of this land and will try yo make the USA for everyone regardless of ethnic. On January 20, 2009 Barak Hussein Obama Ⅱ becomes the 44th president of the USA.

It was the law office "Sidney & Austin" where I first met him. After spending a year at the law school, on summer vacation he worked as a  vice lawyer for a moment. I was chosen to be the partner to help him to adapt here and get used to. Even though I was three years younger than him but, I was able to work as a lawyer earlier than him because I entered here right after I graduated the university. This was the start of our relationship.

He always asked me out but I rejected it because we were in business. However, he kept asking me out and we had our first date. I remember that day, his car was so old that the doors were rusted. He was a man who helped others before him. After Obama's graduation we married in Chicago on November 18, 1992. Having a marriage with him was such a pleasure. Sometimes we had hard times but we went through it wisely. Also, we had two girls and named them Malia and Sasha.

To get to this position, Obama had a lot of hardships. I was with him every steps he made. As the wife of him, I can say with confidence that he is appropriate for the president of USA. He lives his life with the perfect value that's fitted in being president.  From his youngster he tried to figure out what he could do to make better world. He always chose radical way to help the very poor. From his life experience, he knew what the few wanted. black, white. Asian, gay, disabled and so on. He was the few.

A boy born between black Dad from Kenya and white Mom from Hawaii was enough to get attention from people. Since in Kenya it was legal to have many wives, he had many step brothers and sisters. Among them, only Obama got the same name as his Dad. So actually his real name is Barack Obama Jr. From his name, we can know that he was especially special.

Whenever he talked about his Dad, his eyes were sparkling with respect. He told me that he was the role model of his life. Obama really liked his Dad even though it wasn't long spending time with him. Dad was a big meaning to him. He always wanted to be like him. He said that his dad was a brave person and if he has a contention, he would show out his thoughts about it with no fear. He wanted better society for everyone and wanted make the justice.

Is it Dad's influence? Obama wanted to help people who's struggling and yelling for help. Before being a president, as a local community worker, he changed a village's atmosphere. Before his work, the village was full of drugs, guns, and more things that has negative effects. It wasn't a good place to live. After his work, the village has changed into a place where people could live feeling safe. Like this, he did many works helping the people who really needs help.

Well for sure there was also some risks he had to go through. However, he went through it with brave and confidence. He took from small steps to big steps to help more people and make better society. A society for everyone. Regardless of skin or religion where everyone could live feeling safe. Now the USA will stand up and the citizens will have  chance that they didn't have before.

Linda Kim: Essay5

Looking back 2012

Linda Kim 김신아
Every year, I grow up and I have gone through 17 years. And this year, 2012, the 17th year of my life is the first year of high school. I learned a lot of things and I grew up a lot. It is now December, the last month of this year. So, turning back 2012, I would like to write about how I changed in 2012, the best moments of this year, and my hopes for next year.

First, I changed a lot. Starting this year, doing the school vacation homework, I had to read many books like "Why is the half of the world starving?", "An apple of miracle". And these books made me to think of the farther things. And I haven't read the Bible a lot before, but by reading Bible everyday in school and learning from teachers, I could learn more and grow more. And I wasn't really interested in the global problems, but I could learn about it and help people at the opposite side of the world more by learning them by books and the world-citizen-school camp. This camp is one of my best moments, too.

Second, the best moments were when we went to the Jeju island to walk together, when I read the book, "Doctors without borders", and as I mentioned, when I went to the world-citizen-school camp at the summer vacation. While walking Jeju island, I could feel the beauty of the nature and the love of God. And while reading the book "Doctors without borders", I could find my dream. And in the world-citizen-school camp, I could learn more about the global problems and I could meet a lot of nice friends, sisters, and brothers who share similar set of values. I could even get closer to my dream by this camp. And these best moments helped me to grow a lot.

Finally, I am looking forward the next year, 2013. Actually, my interests were diffused in 2012 but I will focus my interest in 2013. Starting 2013 by going to the vision trip to the Philippines, I hope my external and inner side can grow more at the same time. And since I grow a year older, I hope I can be more mature. I hope 2013 will be the year I get closer to my dream.

As I grow old, I feel like one year is really fast. But in this fast going years, there were really many events. And I grew up a lot. I hope every single year to be piled up well and comprise me. Turning back 2012, I could thank of all the chances and events that were given to me.

Lianne Essay 5: My 2012

 My 2012

This 2012 was a special year to me. Since it was my first year of Saemmul High School. I had new environment and many things have changed around me. From my routine to even my food habits. At the head of the year, I felt little uncomfortable. However, gladly I got used to the new school and new friends soon. Right now from looking at the new year of 2013 and reminding the 2012, in my mind I have some good memories and some of the things that I regret.
First thing, I have some best moments in my mind which was on February. I went to Busan by myself to my friend's home. It was my first time in Busan! When I saw Busan in TV, It looked so pretty and I wanted to go there. I took the bus to go to Busan and it took about 4 hours. I couldn't sleep because I was so excited to go to Busan. I had so much fun with my friend there and I was so happy to see her because I hadn't seen her for very long time. We ate almost every food that was famous in Busan. I wanted to live there! Also I went to Hae Woon Beach at night. We played with small fireworks it was really cute:-) When I remind this memory, I feel happy and want to see my friend. I really enjoyed the time there.
Secondly, if there were some happy memories, I also have some memories that I regret.
In high school I regret that I haven't studied hard enough because of my laziness. When I think about my past days, I hadn't lived with plans and just spent the day just by my desire. Also I really regret those days of surfing the internet with no reason. That was just waste of my time. I hope those things won't happen in the year of 2013.
Lastly, I have some hopes for next year. In next year, I want to learn a language. I didn't choose which language to learn yet. However I want to learn a language that will be helpful for my future. I know it will be really hard but I want to have a challenge:) I'm kind of worried if I can do it with doing all the things I have to do in school.
To organize, this year the best moment was my trip to Busan, something that I regret was wasting time using computer with no reason, and lastly my hope for the next year is that I want to learn a new language. I think this year was a total new year for me. I'm glad that I made good friends and had good relationships in Saemmul High School . Also,I feel I've learned a lot here and earned a new perspective. I'm curious what God is planning for my next year and I'm ready to follow his plan:-)!

Sieun Joo : Essay4

Research Paper : Rosa Parks

It was December of 1955 in Alabama. I was working since 7'o clock in the morning today because it said it would rain in the morning and we need to get our corns in so they won't get wet. It was after lunch and I could feel the warm sunlight through the window. It was time to go to work.

I went to work in the afternoon. All of my friends did. People who had the same skin color with me do which people call "black". To go to work I went to the bus station. There were some white people waiting too like usual.

The bus came and I got on. It wasn't crowded so I could sit. It was a law that blacks should give their seat when white people don’t have place to sit. I could not understand and I was very mad with the law but unless I want to go to the police office I had to give my seat away and everyone did like it is normal.

I looked out the window thinking how poor I am and that is the time where the incident happened. Two black men hopped on the bus and told me with their fierce look in their eyes to give them my seat.

I stared at them and did not get up. I looked at them straight forward and did not give them my seat. They looked at me with a surprised face. I bet I was the first black woman who was so brave. I don’t remember where I had that braveness from. No blacks could do that unless they wanted to be in trouble.

Problem started from here. The bus driver had me arrested and I was mad that I couldn’t control myself. The law was that I had to pay for not taking the law but I did not pay becuase I didn't think I did somethig wrong. I believed that we have to be treated the same.

I tried and convicted of violating a local ordinance and it worked. I believe we are here on the planet Earth to live, grow up and do what we can to make this world a better place for all people to enjoy freedom.

This event sparked a citywide boycott of the bus system by black. We refused to use the buses for more than a year. We did not ride the bus and the bus business did not work as well as before and white people thought they had to do something.

I can remember me and my friends all going to work by bicycles or walk. It was hard and uncomfortable but it was way better than to give whites all the right to do anything to us. Other black people were all mad and fought together.  Lots of black people got kicked out and got fired from work because of this situation. They also got hit but they did not ride the bus.

The boycott introduces the country to a clergyman prominence and eventually, the U.S. Supreme Court made a decision outlawing segregation on city buses. They finally accepted it. We won but the white people got very mad and we had to move away. Martin Luther King fought together about how we should be able to eat in a same restuarant in the south side of America.

I kept on trying to make my fellow Americans aware of the history of the civil rights struggle. This was something everyone had to know and remember. I can never forget the scratch on our heart and how harsh they treated us. I do not want my children and the next generation to be like us. I wanted to give them a safer world where everyone has equal rights and no one gets annoyed for their skin color.

This pioneer in the struggle for racial equality earned many honors, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Nonviolent peace Prize.

I did not want anything but just that my children could get treated equally and tell them that they are no different from whites.

Last Essay! ㅠㅠ...

Who/What/Where I would be after 10 years?

Our Fall/Winter semester is almost gone. It is so sad ㅠㅠ. My vision doesn’t change, it is still Doctor. Still I want to be surgeon. However there is something changed by a book Angel Doctor Park Jun-Chul (천사의사 박준철). I recommend this book to our class. It impressed me, I was almost cried, when I read this book.

I will summary this book briefly. This is a book about a surgeon who is Park Jun-Chul. Sadly, he died because of myocardial infarction (심근경색). He got famous, because he donated his human tissues to more than 150 people. Donating human tissue is different with donating organs. Donating human tissue is easier, they don’t need many check to donate! Also he did a lot of nice things in during his lifetime. His mission was treating poor people.

I got impressed by him, I really want to be like him. I want to expand kingdom of God to become Doctor. I also want to donate my human tissues, but I need to wait until I became adult, because it needs parents’ permission.

I really want to be doctor. So I need to study more hard. This is my last essay. Thank you guys to read this. And thanks to Lauren that we have really awesome class! J

The last essay for this year, Essay 5: My reflection of this year's high school life.

The year is almost passed and gone by. Chill winds are making my neck and shoulders shrink, and the warm sunlight is vanishing into the freezing darkness rapidly. Now, I’m writing this essay in school at after school study. I see my friends are working on study hard, but some maybe not. However, It has been a meaningful days, some regretful, some tired, some worthy, and some satisfied. As a arrangement of my memories, I will now tell you about what learned, experienced, and felt. My essential key words that I'm going to describe is 'Essay Class', 'Council President', and 'Faith',

To begin with, I would like to talk about the Essay class first. In this year, I think one of my best improvement is writing an essay. I didn't have any knowledge about structure or logical way of writing. But suddenly, the essay class came to me as a shock. I have never heard that thesis should have all the main ideas in one sentence, and transitions make smooth flow of essay, and in conclusion, there should restate the thesis, and finally, Go out with a BANG! Due to the fact that these informations were brand new to me, thus I was very excited to learn about writing an essay. It really motivated me.

More over, the style of the class that is arranged since fall semester was AWESOME. The idea that publishing+commenting an essay at the blog and the topics for the essay were really brilliant. I was able to learn things which I haven't met from presenter, so it extended my horizon of the knowledge. Also, it was so interesting to argue and discuss about the topics that we were held. This way of conversation helped me to think in a variety ways, and more deeply.
I really appreciates to Miss Lauren and my friends to allow me this great chance and good memories. I really enjoyed it.

As much as important as the essay class, the work of the school's council president taught me numerous things. It consumed plenty of my time, and it also gave me stress quite enough, but it were so much valuable and meaningful experiences made me to think a lot. I think this was capable because our school was very special in many ways, and either are we. To be cool-headed, there was no great accomplishment in our progress of establishing self control regulation that is visible, but our school came through many valuable lessons.

To be specific, I realized what we are doing here is a small-edited replica of our society's politic. I firmly believe that opinions or attitudes we are holding in this community will be our figure exactly when we grow up. We tried to establish a rule in many aspects of our student life to moderate to be concentrated on training to be real christian. But in fact, a major of the student didn't want to restrict their life with public's opinion, so they just keep up with apathy or objected for regulation. We tried many things like debates and surveys for example, but still majority couldn't recognize what is given to them. This was the true nature of our minds, and including my self, we're not much as different as non- christian, without the fact that who believes received a salvation.

However, I learned the part of real 'Democracy' 's figure that democracy allows most of the power to the citizen, therefore, if citizen's express the careless or be subjective about the policy, the community cannot run anymore. I was able to find another point of view, that this circumstances of school is our sum of behaviors result, whatever it is, without exceptions, and still we're responsible for our school and have many chances to express our opinion or ideas actively if we have a care on it.

While I'm reflecting my days calmly, the sudden bitterness strikes me from the aspect of my faith. Faith, I'm well tamed to this word. I'm being in a christian school thus educated by the biblical ways, and get saturated by the terms of Christianity. But in this year, my self recognized that the separation between knowledge and the life got deepen. The reason why I suffered is because I was actually struggling for my own sin very hard. While it's progress, it made many scars in my morality and conscience, that expressed in vomiting almost closely. Also my daily life and emotions and thoughts have been impoverished.
From this experience, I learned that faith doesn't build by what one educated. Faith can be grow up only when oneself struggles for it, holds to it, and follows it. It was a word. The bible. I cannot guarantee that I overcame my weakness, but at this point, it seems like I did it. Only thing that I can do is being cautious from now on .

There are still many things that I can reflect my self, but I think these three topics were quite enough amount to share. I wish I could grow up more and more in many aspects of my life. And the most important lesson of this year was whether I want or not, It's wise to live and struggle for God. I was being so anxious to live against God. In addition, nothing of me was done without God's grace. I sometimes live with misguided belief like I'm something, but I'm not. This truth doesn't make my self esteem low anymore. I'm ready to accept this, and I'm still on training. I thank God to be allowed this year, people's I met, weaknesses of myself, enjoyments, sufferings, struggles, the communities, and even things I couldn't guessed.

"But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as     gold." Job 23:10

essay 4

I choose korean war. This war was fought by North korea and south korea.
After the second world war 1945 and korea was released by Japan, North korea and south korea was divided by the 38th parallel. Actually it was divided by south democracy and people's republic of north korea in 1948.

I will introduce a young man who was a student in south korea. Ordinary he was not appropriate to be an army. But it was a emergency, so he had to be and army. He is still alive, so he will tell us about his experience of the war.

Hi, my name is Kim. Today I will tell the truth about korean war. In my memory, that time was happen when we just released by japan. We were divided by the 38th parallel. I think the reason was people who had democratic ideas and communist idea formed a dispute, and the dispute had formed north korea and south korea.

When I was 16years old, the Soviet Union required to U.S to pullout the army from south. So 1948 U.S and Soviet Union both pullout the army from south and north. At 1949, I over heard peoples who are talking about north leader Kim il sung had visit to Soviet Union and planning for attacking us. Anyone had no response by it. Because it was not once or twice of fighting with north at the 38th parallel.

Day by day, peoples were peace. But one day, the war had start. North had ambush the 38th parallel. Because of that south was in emergency. I remember, it was 1950 June 25. At that day, I was be taken to be an army. I was scared so I'd just to go out of the train and say I'm a student, but it was no used.

Oh...the war was horrible. North had push us to soul by 4days. I didn't know north was strong. Ultimately, north had taken soul. Our first president Lee, he was nervous so he requested to U.S for supporting us. It was good news that U.S will supporting us.

1950, July 17 U.S had come. Our troops been in high spirits. But nothing change south and U.S had been push to Nak-river. I'd really think that we had been fail.
At september 5, the UN secretary general and our superior were talking seriously. The UN secretary general was Douglas MacArthur. If he was not in our side, it was not able to turn the tide of the war against north. At september 15 dawn, our military operation had start. Our amphibious assault launched in Incheon. This was MacArthur's masterstroke, we call this 'Operation Chromite'. Of this operation I had a little injury but it was okay, because we had success this operation.

Success for 'Operation Chromite' the situation had turn. We start to press north.
We could recapture Soul. Pushing them it was able to capture Pyongyang. While the situation was good Our president lee and U.S decided to advance the north.

At october25, north had requested to china. When we decided to advance the north china had came by more than 180,000 military. They had start to attack us.
We against them but it was shortage, we couldn't block them. We had occupied seoul by north and china. But we had get back seoul at March by our new type of weapon.

However, after getting back seoul, we come back when the war was started.
North and South U.S or china and Soviet Union had a big damage. So Soviet Union had suggest to negotiate a ceasefire. Eventually, 1953 July 27, we reach a cease-fire agreement.

The war had been end by a cease-fire. But the result was miserable, so many peoples had been killed and territory had been destroy. Because of this war there were so many families been separated. Futhermore, South and north relationship had been hostility.

Thinking back, the war gave us no benefit. Unfortunately, the war is not end. it just a cease-fire. I really wish this war will be end. Sometime we will be unification of North and South. I'm still alive and our family is happy. Thank u.

Jaehyoung Kim: Essay 5

Why is Windows 8 not appropriate for our next OS?

In 2011, Microsoft Office Lab released this video. Since 2009, Microsoft annually released the videos explaining what they’re expecting to be true after ten years. Therefore, this video, released 2011, shows us what Microsoft is dreaming for 2021.

As shown in video, Microsoft’s future plan is to build a unified solution for both personal computers and mobile devices. Computer technology had become one of the essential parts of our life. Today, most of us communicate through computers. Internet already became bigger than our real world. And moreover, nowadays smartphones and tablets allow us to bring and use computers whenever, wherever we are.

However, despite of the rise of smartphone and tablet, personal computers are still dominating most of our electronic gadgets. And there are some unapproachable benefits of personal computer’s mouse and keyboard input that can never be made with touchscreen.

If you are interested in computer and technology, you might be heard about the release of Windows 8, the next version of Windows 7. On 26 October 2012, Microsoft officially released Windows 8. And it seems to be a step forward to Microsoft’s future vision. But in fact, it only decreased user convenience.

Windows was first introduced in 1985. And with its graphical user interface (GUI) based on mouse input, Microsoft successfully dominated operating system market. Just as what you see when you turn your computer on, the main difference of Windows was that Windows had ‘Windows’.

With the ‘Windows’, Windows was able to offer people much efficient multi-tasking environment, by which people could switch programs with unimaginable speed they’ve ever experience before. And throughout the new versions of Windows such as Windows XP and Windows 7, Windows succeeded to maintain its popularity.

However, in Windows 8, Microsoft had abolished their traditional ‘Windows’ UI, and they replaced it with the interface formerly known as ‘Metro’. The problem is that it’s absolutely not appropriate for the traditional keyboard and mouse input but only optimized for touchscreen environments like tablets.

Though you can keep using the old UI by exiting the new UI, there is no ‘start’ button. Eliminating this ‘start’ button had extremely decreased user convenience. Additional software is required to keep using ‘start’ button as in Windows 7 and even they are not stable yet.

I have no doubt that Windows 8 is a perfect operating system for phones and tablets. It seems very cool to have Windows programs such as Microsoft Office running on tablets. But in my opinion, Microsoft missed a big point. They shouldn't have done replacing whole interface.

What if Windows 8 was all configurable? If Windows 8 had an option to choose UI to be applied, it would be much better. In other operating systems, such as Mac OS and Linux, they didn’t change their traditional UI but they offered touch-friendly launchers instead of it.

According to ZDNet, Microsoft is preparing for the next version of Windows 8 and is codenamed ‘Blue’, in which major updates will be provided annually as in Mac OS X. I hope Microsoft fixes these problems in the next version of Windows 8.

Essay 4: The Gunpowder Plot( Narrator: Guy Fawkes)

Event: Gunpowder Plot
Narrator: Guy Fawkes.

Greeting, young fellas. My name is Guy Fawkes and you may heard about me if you studied England's history.Of course, I know that you didn't, so  I would like to introduce my self  with some informations that are related to me in your generation. How do I know this? Sorry. but I'm the GUY.

Firstable, the word 'guy' you guys are using was originated from my name. Haha. Remarkable, Isn't it? Well,  I feel uncomfortable. Second, the national holiday at november 5th in England, the day when people burn the figure of me, and do the fireworks and have  good times with family was originated from the 'Gunpowder Plot' which I executed. As I have mentioned, I feel miserable about burning my figures. Why? Third, I'm remembered as one of the most notorious terrorist in the history. I don't know what's the problem with the England historian.

I guess you might know quite enough about me now. From this moment, I'll describe the reason why I had to execute the Gunpowder treason, and how much I had to suffer because of it, and the cruelty of the English government which King James1 ruled over. Please do not remember my story as a fairy tale. Some people might assess me as a radical terrorist or religious fanatic, but to advocate my self, I'm not. What I did was to protect my neighborhoods religious freedom, and the spritual conscience and, the dignity as a human. I couldn't hold back anymore for the brutal government's inhumanity.

The generation when I lived was the time when King James 1 conquered the England. When he reached the thrown, he declared that the England's national religion is the Protestant Church. From this point, he carried out a  injustifiable policy with religion that who believes Catholic or another branch of protestant will be pay fines ore be imprisoned or be dead at worse. Many of Catholists or another protestants had to hide their religion and continue the faith in silence.(Cannon,John. The Oxford Companion to British History(revised edition)) Oh, my holy nation was completely saturated by beast's tyranizze.

Far more, King James 1 concluded the peace with Spain, which country supported and tried to sustain Catholism in our nation. As a result, Catholists became hopeless and were betrayed by the nation.(Cannon,John) Eventhough James is the king and it's the fact, It couldn't be acknowledge to me that the King who is overusing the power against God. Moreover, people of God was abused by his evil domination. Numbers of  neighborhood was hanged in front of my eyes, even the kids. If you were me, what would you do? Don't you think someone should do something as a God's slave, liberate the people who is threatened and weaken? How dare could he trample the people who believe in the same name of "God"? How could man who believe in Jesus do these things? It can't. Absolutely not. He was damn wrong, and what he did is not a work of faith, it was just an violence.

Therefore, I decided to recover my nation's freedom from a tyrant. While I served one noble in England, I met the man who was really faithful and loyal to the nation and God. Similar to me, he couldn't stand with the James' oppression.(Encyclopedia.com "Guy Fawkes") We both shared the same idea that if Catholists maintain the passive political position, the doom of the England's light will be come soon, and it was sure that we just cannot depend on the assembley because it was uncertain how much longer they will keep resist with James' force.

So we determined to reform the government, and build from the ground-zero. There was no other way. We founded out that at the day november 5th, king, Lords, and commons were assembled for the opening of the new session. It was a God-given chance to assassinate them all, and raise up the flag of revolution.(Cannon,John) I was expert in gunpowder and bombs because I was in a Spanish military association and I had many experiences.(Encyclopedia.com) Thus we located the tunnel to the parliament under the ground cave, and loaded barrels of gunpowder in order to blow up the parliament.(Cannon, John)

The preparation was done, and the only thing that I had to do was just igniting the massive amount of gunpowder. In the midnight, before to excute the strategy, I got down on my knees and prayed to God. It was the most silent moment in my life time. The memory of war and the smell of  the blood I had passed away like a dim light. The tunnel was so calm and chill. There was no turning back. I had to do what I must. The prosperity and the peace of Catholic of England was all handed to me. I said to God "Please give me a courage to do what is right." I stood up and reached my hand to a lantern.

Suddenly,  sounds of many footsteps vibrated in the tunnel. I heard the man shouting, "He's there! Catch him right now!" I realized at the moment that someone had leak the information to the people of government.(Cannon, John) In this imminent situation, I had to just throw the lamp and hope that the fire is ingnited to the gunpowder. I caught the lamp and threw it to the barells as far as I could. Then I put out my sword and said, "God's justice is upon you now." I brandished the sword to the soldiers and I killed 3 soldiers, but there was too many soliders and I couldn't beat them all although I was a vetteran. Three study man held my tightly and I was completely captured. "Let's go! you fanatic!" one of the soldier shouted. I immediately resisted to be dragged out of the tunnel, and turned my head toward to the gunpowder. but there was no any light or smoke. One man was  putting the fire out at his end of foot after he poured the water on the barrel.

When I arrived at some darkroom where I don't know, they tied me at the chair and asked me a question right away. "Who's your company?" I answered with silence. Few times more he asked but he seemed gave up in a minute. He knew that I was never going to say the names. He commended soldiers "Show him what is a hell." Instantly they took me to an instrument which seemed like a bed. I was tied my 2 legs and 2 arms tightly in a corner of it. "You will sure going to confess your sin and beg for the mercy." The instrument was activated. Extreme pain was occured in my body. I thought that my body was tearing to 4 pieces. I screamed and yelled, the suffer was I never have experinced, freaky, but I couldn't reveal the name of my company.(Encyclopedia.com)

Days after, I couldn't endure anymore. I couldn't think anything. My body was completly became diabled and my most of muscles were cut out, skins were pulple blue and my shape was not a human kind. I screamed and begged. "Catsbey! He's the leader!" Soon I revealed all the name of conspirators, and when my conscious came back, I was going somewhere on a coach.

The soldiers imprisoned me and laughed at me. "Son of the beast came to die at last." In the dark stinky room, unable to do anything I was just lying down on the cold floor, wating for God's salvation. 'God...... why are you doing this to me?' I asked to God in my mind but there was no answer. I was so frustrated about the failure. When the morning came, sunshine came through in my eyes painfully and soldiers dragged me out of the prison, and headed to somewhere. While moving one of the solider said "You're going to die right away. King James sentenced you death." When I arrived at a scaffold. People screamed and shout at me. " You devil! How dare you try to touch our holy king James!" "Kill him! Kill him now!!" They threw stones to me. They spitted on me. At the last moment, I shouted. "God! Please save our country!"

I imagined what if I had succeeded it. I dreamed of the freedom that our people and nation will freely worship God in own ways, and live in peace. But I don't regret it. I believe my behavior became one of the examplary that Cahtolics became more subjective and independant, saying what they must say, and do what they must do. Like the old wisdom says, "Man dies, but one's idea never dies."

Event: Gunpowder Plot
Narrator: Guy Fawkes.

Background information of ‘Gunpowder Plot’
In 1605, after James 1 had became king of England at 1603, He carried out a restrictive policy to Catholics which subjected them to fines, imprisonment and even death. In addition, James 1 concluded peace with Spain which country supported England’s Catholics. However, he backtracked the policy because of continuing objection of the parliament, nevertheless it left Catholics to feel frustrated and hopeless with their nation.
Thus, some of radical Catholics, including Guy Fawkes decided to destroy the English government by blowing up the parliament at November 5th when the king, Lords, and Commons were assembled for the opening of the new session.
However, the plot was betrayed and the conspirators captured, tried and executed.(Cannon,John. The Oxford Companion to British History(revised edition).Oxford University Press, USA April 3, 2003)

Linda Kim: Essay 4

Research paper : Sierra Leone War

                                                                                                             Linda Kim

Hello. I am a 15-year-old girl from Sierra leone. I live with my brother! While I am writing this, my brother just went out to play soccer at the 'One-legged sports club'.(Kim) Whenever brother goes out to play soccer, our house is so empty. I think it is because there are no more mother and father in this house since we lost them at the Sierra leone war.

Before telling you about this terrible war which gave a deep scar to me and my neighbors, I will tell you about our country, Sierra leone. Sierra leone is located at the West Coast of Africa.(Cho) And the population is 5 million and 880 thousand.(Cho) We use English in our country.(Cho) We have lots of ethnic groups including Temne, Mende, and Creole.(Cho) In this country, which seems just like the other normal countries, there was a big war.

In our country, beautiful diamonds are produced a lot. Diamond is traded at the high price because of its mysterious color and fancy sparkle.(Kim) But this diamond was the back ground of the war.(Kim) The war that continued for ten years and left terrible results was holocaust by trying to occupy the mineral rights of this diamond.(Kim) And on this back ground of the Sierra leone war, 'diamond', there is Charles Taylor, who made this tries to occupy the mineral rights to extend to war.(Kim)

The "main" cause of the war, Charles Taylor, was the president of Liberia.(Kim) At that time, the companies that will mine the diamond was already all decided.(Kim) Charles thought that this will turn into invalidity if the new government enters.(Kim) So he gave the rebels money and egged them to fight with the government forces. If Charles didn't support the rebels, the war might have finished soon.(Kim)

Anyway, the war happened. I was born during the war and my father and mother dead by the bomb while getting some food to feed little me and my brother. I didn't got any injury luckily, but my brother lose his one leg. Many of the boys were dragged to the 'Child Soldier'.(Cho) Our country wasn't stabled at all. My friend lost every one around her except me and her son by this war. She even got her arms away.

Finally, the war ended up by the effort of the international societies. The war ended but still, the town was not just happy. There was so many people who dead and who got hurt. And no one could just laugh and say "Wow!! The war is over!!" Even the kids didn't shouted.

Including the child soldier and my friends, there was a lot of damage in our country. Many people's limbs were amputated. And about 2 million people became refugee which is almost half of the population.(Cho) And 2 hundred thousand people died.(Cho) Many people couldn't live without help.

The War ended before 10 years, but everything is still hard in here, Sierra leone.(Kim) We are lack of schools, hospitals, and work places.(Kim) IMF even said like this. "People in the Sierra leone are at the severe poverty by having 26% starving people. And the poverty class is almost 70%."(Kim)

But the international societies are helping us so we are overcoming the scars of the war. It is still very little help. But it is really important thing to us to live. I hope you to be interested in our country and other wars after reading this. The money you spend there by eating something sweet after meal can be a money for us to eat and live one day.

Good news is that Charles Taylor finally got into the jail. From March 13th, 2008, the trial about Charles is opening.(Kim) It is a relief to make someone to be at the law and say sorry. But his admit of his fault cannot make the ones who lost their limbs to get them again. And it cannot make people who dead at the war to be alive. It is because there is nothing more important than one's life. The money, or the diamond(to say it directly) cannot be even compared to the life.

And many people agree to this and many relief organizations are helping us. World Vision, Unicef, MSF are some of them.(Kim) Oh! and the 'One-legged sports club' where my brother is now playing soccer at was also supported by the FIFA. Like this, many people give a look at us and help us. This little helps pile up and make our lives healthy.

Now I would end this by conveying a message from my friend. His name is Koba, and he is a former 'child soldier'. "Wars won't be occurring if all diamonds of Sierra leone exhaust. And my son won't be a child soldier like me. We are looking for the world where has no diamond at all."(Kim)

Unlike to the people here, to Sierra Leone people, diamond is just a mournful jewel that gives a painful wound to the heart.

French Revolution_Wayne's 4th essay

Wayne Han
Révolution Françaiser
I choose Révolution Française as a topic which is related with Jae-hyoung’s topic. There is three big revolution for democracy that French Revolution, English Revolution (Glorious Revolution) and American Revolution. French Revolution was progressed 1787 to 1789(Britannica, Révolution Française). It was happened by many reasons, I will introduce some of them, it is because of the increasing prosperous elite of wealthy commoners, the peasant were aware of their situations, participation in the American Revolution had driven the government to the brink of bankruptcy, and crop failures in 1788, made them a long period of economic difficulties(Britannica Révolution Française).

Now I will introduce a person who underwent French revolution and huge change after revolution. He was a farmer, but he became revolution activist. He will talk us about his experience of revolution. Please give him a big hand.

Hi, my name is Robert Fournier. Today, I’m happy to talk about my experience about French Revolution. It was progressing on 1787 to 1789. I was 35 years old, when French Revolution was started. I couldn’t forget my 35 to 37 age memories. Oh, I want to introduce my family first. I have my pretty wife, and 4 children who are Elisa, Quantin, Laetitia, and Martin. They will appear many times on my story.

Let’s start. Um... When I was 34 years old, there was a huge drought in the France. But still Louis XVI and Maria Antonia’s persecution was so strong to ordinary farmers. The government took more than 80 percent of my income. When they build something, then, we had to give more tax than we earn and also we have to give our work. By our tax and work, 1 percent of nobles, and clerics made different special position. And they live luxuriously and elegantly (Doopedia, French Revolution, Révolution Française).

Day by day, powerless commoner and bourgeois’ complaint was soaring high. By that time, philosophy of enlightenment was peppered throughout fast. Philosophy of enlightenment is so important, it’s no exaggeration to say that philosophy of enlightenment lead citizens to revolution. Enlightenment is mostly made by Montesquieu and Rousseau. It is idea that God, reason, nature, and man synthesize into a world view that human’s reason power and trusting human’s unlimited potential for development. Also, the way of progressing humankind is overcoming ignorant and superstition and reform old customs and systems. (Doopedia)

Start of Revolution was États Généraux (Estate General). At 1789, Louis XVI resumed Estate General because of worsening finance. But on way of voting, there was big controversy. So 3rd identities ran out Estate General, because it was unfair that 1st and 2nd identities have 2 votes each, and 3rd identities only have 1 vote. After that 3rd identities made National Assembly that was consisted by 3rd. They vow in the tennis court about this assembly must not break up before make a law and recover society’s order. (Doopedia)

It is really famous event in French Revolution. Yes, it is the storming of the Bastille. I was at spearhead of citizen crowd. It was so thrilled. Anyway, we invaded to the Bastille to release political prisoner, but also we need good weapon to fight. By us, army of government deleted by a moment. This storming had spread to all of the country, that caused farmers' revolt. This revolt had been getting bigger and bigger, a constitutional assembly finally passed the Declaration of Human Rights. I thought it will be done because they passed the Declaration(Doopedia). Because of the storming of Bastille, we took sovereignty back from novels(먼나라 이웃나라).

The Declaration of Human Rights is based on human's natural right (freedom, ownership, etc. In order to preserve it, they allow the political union and country's formation, formation's basic principle is Sovereignty rests with the people(주권재민), seperation of power, and the law legislation(법률제정권). This Declaration effected many law of the world and politics including 1891 French Constitution(Doopedia).

So, the period of legislation just opened. But there was confliction between Girondins party and Jacobins party, because of the way of reformation. Girondins wanted to reform progressively, however Jacobins wanted to reform rapidly. Because Girondins have more money than Jacobins, so hey have to keep their money. During this confliction, the international situation was kind of hard to us. England, Austria, or Deutschland was planning to fight with France, because they didn't want to be like France's situation.(Doopedia)

It called a revolutionary war. Start of this war was only between France and Austria. However, after Affair Varennes (Louis XVI tried to run out from France), Louis killed by citizen, so marginal countries participated into a Revolutionary War on Austria's side. Oh I forgot something, by Louis' death, Frace established Constitutional Monarchy. War had a decided advantage to Austria's side. However, by Montagnards (belonging to Jacobins), we established to the war basis. We regained most of our territory.(Doopedia)

Around the war, Robespierre did Reign of Terror. Start of it was to overcome economical problem. But Robespierre abused his power. He killed a lot of person who hated. That is why it called Reign of Terror. Robespierre was Jacobins. Giordins rose in revolt to kill him. So after his death, Giordins established Directoire, but in France, there was still economical and political problem. So Napoleon appeared sadly...(Doopedia)

I am proud of this revolution, because by us it is not exaggerative that democracy and Constitution is started from this. My story is the end. Thank you guys to hear my boring story haha. This is about my memorization. Thank you!
